Women’s Day! Dynamic words, add to that Food for Life, and it extends the magnitude of this exceptional day. The designated organisation was the Umgeni Empowerment Community Centre, where the residents were treated to a specially arranged Women’s Day program.
In addition, sponsors were sourced for various items, which the ladies do not have access to and/or unable to obtain on their own. The generous contributions were allocated individually for each resident and all products were packed into beautiful bags. The ladies were treated to a delicious lunch and dessert and had an enjoyable social with their friends. The gift-bags were then presented to the special ladies, this was surely a surprise for which they were most appreciative and grateful.
There were also a few children resident at the shelter, so some sweet treats and toys were packed into goodie-bags for each child. Much to their surprise and delight these were received with great joy and smiles.
The ladies resident here have been subjected to harsh conditions and had to overcome difficult experiences. Hence, the creation of these initiatives are imperative, as it potentiates the ability for individual expansion and allows for progressive development of the community as well.
The Umgeni Empowerment Community Centre really valued the input and efforts of the Food for Life team and the Women’s Day program was a great success. Hopefully this can serve as a platform to create more opportunities for programs like this in the future.
