KENSINGTON FEEDING 24 FEB 2015

For many months, Food for Life Cape Town has focused on being able to do a weekday feeding, as well as working with like-minded organisations.  In November we were contacted by Reneilwe Kgosana, 2015 Chairperson of University of Cape Town’s Bhakti Yoga Society (BYS).  The lovely Reneilwe conceived the idea of doing a joint venture between Shawco’s (UCT’s student-based volunteer organisation) Education sector (headed by lovely President Ruth Urson), BYS and FFL.  We obviously jumped at the idea, as this would ‘kill 2 birds with 1 stone’ and help us fulfill 2 of our recent aspirations.

After much planning, weeks of effort finally culminated in our first-ever Shawco/BYS/FFL feeding at Shawco’s learning centre in Kensington.  Key contributors were Reneilwe, Ruth and Karen (project leader at Kensington learning centre).

Michael cooked Tuesday morning (the food looked, smelled and tasted GREAT), and Ruth kindly collected the food and volunteers from Rondebosch and delivered to the Kensington Centre, where the kids were already waiting in anticipation.  Reneilwe, Ruth, Karen, Masha and Olivia Ortiz served the food with friendly smiles, to the delight of the kids – as can be evidenced from the pics.

So, a successful pilot project, and hopefully something that will become a permanent fixture.  There are still a number of logistical issues which need to be resolved, but we are confident this will be a fruitful, long-lasting partnership.  It’s likely there are names I’ve failed to mention, so THANKS to all who were involved.

Until next week…
